Veteran Wall of Honor

DOVER, DE- Complete Care at Silver Lake marked Veterans Day with its annual ceremony and luncheon, honoring 17 resident veterans and four staff members for their dedicated service to the country.

This senior care facility prioritizes honoring military service with a dedicated wall featuring the faces of resident and staff veterans who have defended the nation. The wall serves as a tribute to their service and sacrifice, ensuring they are never forgotten.

Today, 21 new photos were added to the wall, further expanding the facility’s recognition of its veteran community. This ongoing display serves as a daily reminder to staff, residents, and families of the sacrifices made by these brave men and women.

Steve Smith, an administrator at Complete Care at Silver Lake, says that while Veterans Day is a special time to celebrate those who served, the wall offers a daily reminder of their sacrifice and service.

"It’s here to show that we appreciate them, all the service they’ve provided to this country, and it’s just a way of giving back."

For William Walls, an Army veteran residing at Complete Care at Silverlake, knowing that his service is still appreciated makes all the difference.

"It means a lot. It really does. It just makes you feel like it wasn’t done and forgotten."

While Walls says his fight may be over, he knows his service and sacrifice continue to have meaning.

"You are fighting for a cause—because I’ve got grandchildren, and I want them to be able to live free and continue living free."

The wall of honor for the veterans at the facility also serves as a source of motivation for staff members, such as Andrew Leatherbury.

"I look at the vets who are here and look at them as pioneers—the ones that pushed things forward. Without them, I would not be here."

As both a staff member and an Army veteran, Leatherbury understands the importance of honoring those who came before him.

"When I look at them, it’s a lot of gratitude and a melancholic feeling. These are the people that pushed this generation to the next, and I appreciate them a lot."

The ceremony, highlighted by the addition of 21 new photos to the wall, serves as a powerful reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of military veterans. Today's event encapsulated the facility’s deep respect for those whose service continues to shape the nation’s legacy.

With the wall now honoring even more veterans, it will continue to celebrate their service today and for many years to come.
