FORECAST DISCUSSION
Normal high: 60°F. Normal low: 39°F.
Well, it has been more than a month, but we finally received a healthy dose of sorely needed rain on Delmarva Sunday night, with much of the peninsula receiving ½" to 1" of rain!
The rain came ahead of a cold front which will cross Delmarva Monday night, ushering in high pressure for Tuesday. With that high pressure will come windy conditions.
Tuesday will see lots of sunshine, but the northwest wind could gust to 30 mph over land, and to 30 kts or more over water. While Sunday night's rain was a good first step toward alleviating the ongoing drought, there will still be a wildfire risk as the fuels and dormant grasses start drying back out again.
The winds will relax by Wednesday, which will be sunny and pleasantly cool before another frontal boundary brings another chance for showers on Thursday, with the timing likely late Thursday into Friday morning. Medium-range guidance is not in agreement on how much rain we'll see Thursday evening, with some models putting out a welcome ½" or more, and others putting out just a trace. We'll keep you updated, but the takeaway is that our next chance of rain is late Thursday.
High pressure builds back in for next weekend, and we're looking at mostly sunny skies and pleasantly seasonable temperatures.
Burn bans are in effect for all of Delaware and Maryland until further notice. Most outdoor burning activities are prohibited and fines are possible. Use extra caution with any other outdoor activities involving sparks or flame, and extinguish cigarettes safely. Check with your county officials for any exceptions to your local area.
The long-range outlook has temperatures likely above normal and precipitation near normal between November 18 and November 24.
In the Tropics:
A tropical low could develop in the Western Caribbean in the next seven days; the development chance is a medium 50 percent.
The Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30.
