FORECAST DISCUSSION

Normal high: 70°F. Normal low: 48°F.

We are starting off the work week on a sunny and warm note. High pressure is in charge over much of the Eastern Seaboard, making for warm temperatures. Monday night should be clear and seasonably cool, with lows in the mid 40s.

High pressure will start to slide offshore on Tuesday, causing winds to shift to a southwesterly direction under mostly sunny skies. This will push temperatures up to near 80°F in locations away from the water.

The winds could become a little gusty in the afternoon as a frontal boundary approaches from the northwest.

The frontal boundary will sag over Delmarva starting on Wednesday, and our mid- to long-range guidance is suggesting the boundary will linger through next weekend.

With the boundary nearby, we'll see more clouds mixing in with the sun, coupled with daily chances for pop-up showers and thunderstorms, with the highest chances for rain in the afternoon and evening. As of Monday evening, our convective dynamics are not looking great for severe development, meaning that severe weather is not very likely over Delmarva, though there could be the occasional thunderstorm that taps into the abundant warm air (temperatures will be in the 70s to mid 80s through Saturday) and briefly becomes strong to severe for damaging wind gusts.

So, the takeaway is that if you have outdoor plans Wednesday through Sunday, go ahead with them, just keep an eye to the sky and be ready to duck into shelter if you see dark clouds on the horizon, or hear thunder. No single day will be a washout.

The next work week will start off just like this one, with high pressure and comfortable sunshine.

In the long range, temperatures are expected to average above normal, and precipitation below normal for May 5 - May 11.
