Our hot, summer-like weather is expected to continue into the first half of next week.
A trough is setting up along the East Coast, and in the hot and humid environment is expected to trigger some showers and thunderstorms Friday evening. Some of these thunderstorms could be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts in heavy downpours the main threat. Downpours could produce rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour or more at times, leading to a localized flash flooding threat. Given recent rainfall, many soils have become waterlogged, and some downed trees are possible where strong winds develop (the ground when too wet becomes a little muddy, reducing the ability of the roots to grab on to the ground).
Thunderstorms are expected to end by midnight, and skies will clear into early Saturday morning.
Saturday will be another hot and humid day, with partly to mostly sunny skies and high temperatures rising into the mid 90s, and feeling like 100°F or more at times when the humidity is considered. There will again be a threat for thunderstorms popping up in the evening.
Sunday will again be similar, with partly to mostly sunny skies and a chance of pop-up thunderstorms late in the day.
We'll continue to be hot into early next week with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s, with heat indices near 100°F in the afternoons. The threat of thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday is low.
There is a potential for a cold front to swing across Delmarva sometimes in the Wednesday-Thursday timeframe next week, which could be our next chance for more widespread showers and thunderstorms.
In the long range, temperatures are expected to be near normal, and precipitation above normal for Aug 14 - Aug 20.
In the Tropics: There are no areas of development interest at this time.
