Now that spring is here, you may be thinking about spring cleaning, and if part of your spring cleaning is to de-clutter your home of unwanted or barely used furniture.
Your job just may have gotten a lot easier because of Delmarva Furniture Consignment.
DFC allows you to sell your furniture without leaving the comforts of home.
“Everything starts off with photographs,” said Diane Frabizzio, Store Manager. “What you would do is go to our website and click on the word ‘sell’ and you would fill out a request form.”
Sellers are also required to attach a picture of the piece for Diane to decide whether or not to accept it. If the furniture is accepted, DFC will pick it up and take it to the store.
The selling price, which is split 50-50, is agreed upon between the seller and Diane.
Diane says if the furniture is not sold within thirty days, 15% is taken off the initial selling price. After sixty days, the initial selling prices is cut 40%. After 90 days, the initial selling price is cut in half.
“It’s 120 days total, but a majority of the furniture normally leaves at 40% off,” said Diane.
Pot
ential buyers can watch the furniture online and be alerted when the price point changes, but Diane says it’s a gamble because someone else could buy the furniture before the price goes down.
If the furniture doesn’t sell within the 120 days, the consigner is given the option to either pick up the furniture, have a charity pick up the piece for donation, or give ownership to DFC to sell at a deep discounted price.
As for who is looking for what, Diane says she’s seeing an interesting trend.
“The older people are downsizing, and the younger people are building these big homes [and] they’re coming in needing Chinas, and tables and chairs,” said Diane.
With furniture coming from different homes that belong to different people, there’s a wide variety of styles from which to choose.
