WORCESTER CO., MD - The Worcester County Board of Education, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, and the State’s Attorney have issued a joint statement addressing concerns with school safety within the county.
The joint statement from the three bodies comes after a lengthy back-and-forth between the Board of Education and law enforcement.
The statement says all three entities have met three separate times to discuss solutions to safety concerns. The State’s Attorney and Sheriff’s Office have given the Board of Education several recommendations to address those concerns, which the Board acknowledges and will consider.
“The Office of the State’s Attorney, the Sheriff’s Office and the Board of Education are committed to participating in ongoing meetings and discussion and to taking actions necessary to achieve the highest level of safety and security in Worcester County schools,” the statement reads.
All three say they recognize the right to transparency and accountability, especially in matters of school safety, for parents and the public. While they work on the safety concerns together, the statement reads, they also plan to collectively present information and answer questions to “eliminate confusion and confirm to our community that we are doing everything we can to make schools the safest places in Worcester County.”
