SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - Authorities are investigating a crash that left one man dead and another woman seriously injured.

Delaware State Police say the crash happened on Nov. 11 around 11:34 p.m. on Whitesville Road, east of Whaley's Road. Troopers say a car was speeding when, for unknown reasons, the driver failed to maintain control and allowed the car to slide off the roadway. Troopers say the car struck multiple trees and continued to violently rotate, during which the front right passenger was ejected from the car. The passenger reportedly came to a rest inside the wooded area near the edge of the road.

State police say the driver of the car, a 35-year-old man, died at the scene. On Monday, November 13th, police identified the victim as Alexander Bechtel, of Seaford.

Troopers say the passenger, a 31-year-old Seaford woman, was flown to an area trauma hospital, where she was admitted for life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was reportedly closed for around four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues investigating this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Sergeant J.
