CRISFIELD, Md. - Fire officials say a fire at an abandoned home was set intentionally.

According to the Crisfield Fire Department, on July 3 around 5:10 a.m., officials were alerted to a house fire in the area of Locus Street and Canal Street. Fire units from Crisfield, Marion, and Fairmount responded to the scene and found an abandoned structure engulfed in flames.

Crews reportedly worked for around one hour to extinguish the flames. Officials say Chief Pruitt had command prior to turning the scene over to the Maryland State Fire Marshal for investigation. Investigators say the origin of the fire was on the first-floor of the home. The homeowner was identified by officials as Floyd Pugh. Fire officials say the cause was determined to be arson. Officials say this marks the third vacant house fire in Crisfield since Oct. 2022. The other fires occurred at 2 West Main Street on Oct. 9 and 201 North Third Street on Oct. 12.
