*UPDATE*: As of about 5 p.m. on January 9th, traffic is being held at the Bay Bridge due to the high winds.
MARYLAND - Maryland’s Transportation Authority has announced the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is under full wind restrictions as Tuesday’s winter storm settles into the region.
Under the restrictions, only cars, pickup trucks, flatbed trailers, commercial buses, and heavy-laden tractors are permitted on the bridge, according to the MTA. Other vehicles could see hazardous impacts due to the wind.
Full Wind Restrictions are put in place when wind speeds exceed 50 mph for a duration of ten minutes or more. According to WBOC Chief Meteorologist Dan Satterfield, wind gusts of over 60 mph were recorded just a few miles from the bridge Tuesday evening.
