Sgt. Kent Montgomery

SMYRNA, DE - The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the home of a Smyrna veteran’s family to honor his legacy.

According to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Army Sergeant Kent Montgomery joined the United States Army when he was 18. After being stationed in Germany, Montgomery returned to Delaware and joined the Reserves Transportation Unit.

On November 23, 2023, Montgomery tragically passed after a battle with stage IV colon cancer. Montgomery was exposed to depleted uranium and other elements from oil refineries and cement factories while deployed in Kuwait, leading to the cancer diagnosis.

Montgomery was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Army Achievement Medal, during his service in Bosnia and in Operation Enduring Freedom.

He is survived by his wife and their two children.

On November 11th, Veterans Day, Tunnel to Towers announced they had paid off the mortgage on the home Sgt. Montgomery had purchased with his wife.

“Kent never questioned why this happened to him. He fought till the end and was happy with the life we lived. Tunnel to Towers ensuring that my children and I can stay in the home that Kent and I picked out together is the stability we always wanted. Now T2T is honoring Kent by giving him peace that his family will be taken care of,” said Jennifer Montgomery.

Tunnel to Towers Gold Star Family Home Program pays off mortgages or provides mortgage-free housing to the surviving spouses and young children of fallen servicemen and women as well as first responders.

“SGT Montgomery joined the Army right out of high school. He served multiple tours overseas but he faced his toughest battle once he returned home,” said Tunnel to Towers Chairman & CEO Frank Siller. “This Veterans Day, Tunnel to Towers is honored to ensure that his family will always have a place to call home”
