Sussex County Property Tax Estimate

SUSSEX CO. -- Sussex County officials have created a property tax calculator that estimates tax bills based on newly assessed property values. WBOC sat down with multiple homeowners Wednesday to walk through the process.

Once on the website, users are able to select the school district and enter the newly estimated property value of their home. After clicking the 'calculate' button, homeowners should be able to see an estimated range for their upcoming tax bills.

Those who don't have their new property value letters on-hand will also be able to find that information on the website. Users who click the information button directly next to the assessed value entry bar can search the number up by typing in the property owner's name or the address of the lot.

The website also allows homeowners to view their tax bills from 2024.

"It was actually a lot easier than I expected," Joshua Fox, a homeowner in Ocean View, said.

Fox told WBOC the tool was helpful.

"Especially being able to find the information right on the site. I didn't have to do a whole lot of digging, which made it easier," Fox said.

Another homeowner in Ocean View, Hank Scudder, also sat down with WBOC to give the calculator a try.

"The website's not super intuitive but it wasn't hard to figure out," Scudder said. "I'd like to think I'd stumble through it and get to the right answer."

Scudder said he wishes there was a little more communication from county leaders throughout the entire reassessment process.

"I didn't even know I could do this until WBOC happened to knock on my door and tell me I could do this," Scudder said. "I don't think they're doing a great job selling us on it or really explaining what it's all about."

Sussex County's property tax calculator offers an estimated range. The estimated cost does not factor in tax assistance programs or any taxable service fees.
