DOVER, DE- The Delaware Office of Highway Safety has launched its "Sober Rides" initiative just in time for Thanksgiving, offering $20 ride-sharing vouchers to help impaired drivers get home safely.

By visiting MySoberRides.com, users can claim the vouchers, which are directly deposited into their Uber or Lyft apps. Valid from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday, the program aims to provide a convenient and responsible way for people to avoid dangerous decisions on the road during the busy holiday weekend.

Meghan Niddrie with the Office of Highway Safety emphasized the importance of planning ahead for a safe holiday season.

“It’s the holiday season. It can be a very festive and fun time for a lot, and it can also turn very tragic.”

This year, the program has expanded from partnering solely with Lyft to include Uber, broadening access to safe transportation options.

State law enforcement is also stepping up efforts to ensure roadway safety through education and enforcement programs.

Lewis Briggs, with the Delaware State Police, highlighted the holiday season’s impact on traffic, noting a significant increase in vehicles on the roads.

“The Delaware Office of Highway Safety and DSP continually work to keep impaired drivers off the roads through education and enforcement. The Drive Sober program is one way we’re doing that.”

Briggs urged drivers to take advantage of programs like "Sober Rides", emphasizing that one bad decision could have devastating consequences, not only for the individual but for others on the road.

“If someone is impaired, please use a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft or call a friend—do not drive impaired.”

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety says it plans to launch a similar initiative for New Year’s Eve, continuing its mission to keep people safe during the holidays.
