POCOMOKE, Md.- Maryland State Police are investigating the murder of a woman after her body was found Wednesday in Worcester County, and say they've identified a person of interest.

Troopers say the woman, who was been identified as Lesa Renee White, 48, of Atlantic, Virginia, was found Wednesday night inside a home in the 1400 block of Snow Hill Lane in Pocomoke City.

A family member reported White missing to the Pocomoke Police Department Monday, January 4th, according to Maryland State Police. The preliminary investigation states White was last seen earlier that day in Pocomoke City in her correctional officer uniform.

Police say White's body is being taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Investigators say they are following leads and attempting to identify suspects. They've identified a Pocomoke City man named William Edward Strand as a person of interest in this case. Officers say there is already a warrant out for his arrest for a separate attempted murder case. Police say he was last seen driving a 2014 Chevy Malibu with Maryland tag No. 5DP3127.

Anyone with information is asked to call Maryland State Police.
