SMYRNA, Del.- Smyrna police have preliminarily identified a young girl whose remains were discovered last year at the Little Lass softball fields.

Police on Thursday said the preliminary investigation has led investigators to identify the child as Emma Cole, who was 3 years of age at the time of her passing.

On Tuesday, police said two persons of interest in the case were in custody out of state. Police have now identified those individuals as Kristie Haas, 28, and Brandon Haas, 38, both formerly of Smyrna.

Police found the girl's remains in September 2019. In November of 2019, police released facial reconstruction images of what the girl may have looked like when she was alive.

Police said the child was dead for several weeks, if not longer, when she was found.

According to police, the investigation remains active and ongoing and there is no active threat to human safety.

The FBI is also assisting Smyrna police in the investigation.
