QUANTICO, Md. - Park officials are welcoming the public to Pirate's Wharf Park beginning Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m.
Wicomico County Recreation, Parks, and Tourism is inviting visitors to explore the playground, pavilion, and a portion of the trails. Officials say the pavilion is not available for rental at this time.
Some areas are closed for construction. Officials are asking the public to avoid these areas and follow directions on posted signs throughout the park as construction continues.
County officials are working on opening additional portions of the park. An estimated timeline is listed below:
- Early 2024: Remaining trails open; interpretive exhibits installed
- 2025: Boat ramp, soft launch, fishing pier and viewing areas open
At the end of 2018, the Wicomico County Council voted to accept a federal grant award of $820,000 from the National Parks Service through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for development of the property known as "Pirate’s Wharf." The grant is administered through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
