LEWES, DE - The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has announced partial closures in Cape Henlopen State Park next week to allow for a managed deer hunt.

According to DNREC, a section of the park will be closed Tuesday, January 16th, and Wednesday, January 17th for the hunt. The closure will include the park’s main entrance, so guests will be unable to access bay and ocean beaches north of Herring Point, DNREC says.

DNREC says the lands west of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal and the Gordons Pond area will be open as usual.

The managed deer hunt is aimed to reduce the number of deer in and near the park, as well as their environmental impact on the park’s plants. The hunt is being coordinated by the DNREC Division of FIsh and WIldlife and the Division of Parks and Recreation.
