Sandy Brea House Fire

LEWES, DE - A house fire in the Sandy Brea community of Lewes required the response of multiple fire departments Monday morning and resulted in one person requiring medical care.

According to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, numerous fire companies and paramedics were called to Juniper Dr. to assist the Lewes Fire Department with the fire just before 2 a.m. on November 11. Firefighters say the fire broke out at a two-story home with reports of people possibly trapped inside.

As firefighters battled the flames, Delaware State Fire Police shut down sections of the roadway to allow for a large hose to bring water from the nearest hydrant more than 3,000 feet away, according to first responders.

Firefighters say one person in the home was taken to a nearby hospital.

Pictures from the scene appear to show the home totally destroyed. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company says the Delaware State Fire Marshal is now investigating the fire.
