Mountaire Wye Mill Fire

WYE MILLS, MD - The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating a Monday morning fire at a Mountaire grain facility in Queen Anne’s County.

The Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Company arrived at the facility on reports of the fire on Old Wye Mills Road just after 8:15 a.m. on December 18th. A Mountaire spokesperson says the fire started in the basement of an office building, and one employee suffered minor injuries. The woman was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further evaluation, according to Mountaire.

The State Fire Marshal says it took 50 firefighters one hour to control the flames. Total damages are estimated at $150,000, though Mountaire says no grain storage containers were damaged and operations should be only minimally impacted.

The preliminary cause of the fire was listed as accidental.
