SMYRNA, Del.- The Delaware Department of Corrections has announced on an inmate.
Paul Webber, 61, formerly of Newark, died on Sunday, according to the DOC. He was an inmate from James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.
According to officials, Webber was found unresponsive in his single cell during a routine security check around 11 a.m. Sunday. Security staff immediately began life-saving measures, joined by facility medical staff. Paramedics later arrived and assisted. Webber was pronounced dead by JTVCC medical staff at the correctional center.
Officials say Webber had been in custody since 2010 and was serving a 25-year sentence as a habitual offender for first-degree armed robbery.
Delaware State Police responded to the scene to conduct an independent death investigation. We are told Webber's body has been turned over to the Division of Forensic Science to determine cause of death.
