GREENWOOD, DE - The Delaware State Police have found a wanted Greenwood man who was at large and considered armed and dangerous following an officer-involved shooting.
On Tuesday, November 28th, State Troopers say they, along with Kent County Governor’s Task Force and Probation officers, found Brian Holben 27, of Greenwood, driving a Jeep in a parking lot on Hickman Road just before 9:30 p.m. Hickman was a known fugitive with multiple arrest warrants according to police.
Authorities attempted a traffic stop, but Holben allegedly attempted to flee by pushing two State Police cruisers out of his way with his Jeep. Police then tried to remove Holben from the vehicle, but say that Holben shot at one of the detectives. Police say they returned fire at him before he fled into the nearby woods.
On Thursday, November 30th, Maryland State Police and a U.S. Marshal's Task Force assisted the Delaware State Police located Holben in Caroline County Maryland and executed a search warrant at a camper.
According to police, Holben refused to surrender and barricaded himself inside. After unsuccessful attempts to negotiate, police say they entered the camper and discovered Holben dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As per standard operating procedures within the Delaware State Police, the troopers who fired their weapons on Tuesday were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation regarding the use of force, police say.
