5th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration

SALISBURY, MD - The Salisbury Kwanzaa Club, Inc. is set to hold their fifth annual Kwanzaa Celebration, beginning with a special event in Salisbury tonight to kick off the beginning of the seven-day celebration.

The Kwanzaa Celebration is planned to begin with the Love Peace and Unity event at the Charles H Chipman Cultural Center in Salisbury at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26th, the first day of Kwanzaa. The Love Peace and Unity event aims to bring the community together and foster connections and positivity, according to the event’s description.

The Salisbury Kwanzaa Club invites those passionate about social justice, community building, or anyone who wants to connect with others with similar goals of promoting harmony and understanding. The event will also pay tribute to the lives lost in the past 5 years to gun violence.

Peace Activist Guy P. Djoken, Chair of the Continental African Diversity Leadership Council and Executive Director of UNESCO Centre for Peace, is also slated to attend as Guest Speaker at the event.

Kwanzaa began in the 1960s and was started by Wicomico County native Dr. Maulana Karenga. The week-long celebration begins with seven principles, or Nguzo Saba: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
