DOVER, DE - Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen has announced the termination of the city’s state of emergency following an investigation into a potential cyber security breach.

The state of emergency was first declared on January 29 after a Kent County cyber security entity flagged possible confidential information appearing online. The state of emergency declaration allowed Dover to swiftly enter into contracts and hire temporary workers or contractors if necessary to complete the investigation and resolve any issues discovered.

On Thursday, February 27, Christiansen said the investigation had been completed and no unauthorized access to the city’s network or systems had been found.

"As we bring the State of Emergency to a close today, I want to assure the residents of Dover that the investigation confirmed that no unauthorized access occurred, and we will continue to implement additional measures to further secure our systems moving forward," Christiansen said in a statement Thursday.

City officials say Dover has already resumed regular operations.

"I apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused our residents, staff and vendors" Mayor Christiansen added. "We understand the impact these measures may have had, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we worked to resolve this matter."
