GEORGETOWN, DE - A Sussex County Superior Court Judge in Georgetown has found Randon Wilkerson guilty on all counts, including the 2021 murder of Delmar police officer Keith Heacook.
Randon Wilkerson, 32, attacked Heacook while the officer was responding to a fight at a Delmar home. Witnesses said they saw Wilkerson repeatedly slamming his foot on Heacook’s head. Wilkerson was also found guilty of attacking and injuring an elderly couple the same day.
The trial for Delmar Corporal Keith Heacook's murder will take place Oct. 16 in a Sussex County courtroom. We revisit the investigation on what happened the morning of April 25, 2021, when the officer was attacked.
Neither the defense nor prosecution gave any words in Monday's proceedings. The conviction comes solely from Judge Craig Karsnitz, as Wilkerson waived his right to a jury trial in September. It took the judge less than two hours to hand down his verdict of guilty on all charges
A USB flash drive containing body camera footage from a Wicomico County Sheriff's officer who responded to the scene and attempted to revive Heacook was presented as evidence.
Heacook was found in a pool of blood at the Delmar home on Buckingham Drive. Police attempted CPR in the front yard of the home before Heacook was taken by ambulance.
A dumbbell weight found nearby bore Heacook's DNA, according to court evidence.
The trial was originally slated for November of 2022 but was impeded by continuance filings. It has been nearly two and a half years since Wilkerson brutally killed Heacook in April of 2021, finally concluding with Wilkerson’s guilty conviction today, October 16th.
As the murder trial of the man accused of killing Delmar police officer Cpl. Keith Heacook rapidly approaches, the impact of Heacook’s shocking death remains tangible across Delmarva more than two years later.
Wilkerson’s sentencing is scheduled for December 8th. He faces up to life in prison. Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings is set to comment on the trial Monday afternoon at the Department of Justice.
