DOVER, Del. (AP/WBOC)- Services have been announced for Harold "Jack" Peterman, a Republican state representative from Milford, who died Wednesday after a long period of declining health.

According to the Delaware State Senate Republican Caucus, visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Milford Church of the Nazarene, 11 N.W. Salevan Place in Milford. The funeral service will follow visitation at 2 p.m., and be held at the same location.

Peterman, who was absent for most of the two-year legislative session that ended last month, announced in March after undergoing prostate cancer surgery that he would not seek re-election. He also struggled with other health issues, undergoing multiple back surgeries to correct pinched nerves that caused chronic pain and impaired his mobility.

Peterma was elected to the 33rd District House seat in 2010. He was a retired farmer and former Kent County Levy Court commissioner.

Peterman was a widower and had two children.

Members of the Senate Republican Caucus shared some of their memories of Peterman.

"I had the pleasure of serving with Jack in the House.  He was always the epitome of a gentleman and respected everyone he interacted with.   He worked hard to represent his community and will be fondly remembered and missed," - Sen. Greg Lavelle.

"Jack was a gentleman in every sense.  He cared deeply about his constituents and the State of Delaware.  His statesmanship will be missed in and around Legislative Hall, and I offer  the prayers and condolences from my family and me to his loved ones," - Sen. Brian Pettyjohn.

"Jack was known for his constituent service. He worked hard for them and he will surely be missed,"  - Sen. Gary Simpson.

"I was humbled to serve with my friend, Rep. Jack Peterman. His care, concern & candor will be missed," - Sen. Ernie Lopez.

"I first met Jack when I worked at the Milford Police Department. It was in 1970 when he worked at Graves Clothing in Milford. Jack was always gentle and kind. I saw him open his own wallet to help people in need more than once. He will be sorely missed," - Sen. Dave Lawson.
