ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Among the 144 bills signed into law by Md. Governor Larry Hogan Thursday, was a bill designed for harsher punishments for those who make fake bomb threats.

The bomb threat prosecution bill, or HB 121, was sponsored by Delegate Mary Beth Carozza of District 38C, which represents Wicomico and Worcester Counties. Carozza introduced the legislation on the heels of repeated false bomb threats made against schools and other public facilities across Delmarva earlier this year.

This new law will allow law enforcement to prosecute the crime of making a false bomb threat in the jurisdiction in which the destructive device or toxic material was stated or rumored to be located, regardless of where the call originated from or was received.

The new law goes into effect on October 1.
