SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. -- Sussex County received the latest update on its years-long project to revalue nearly 200,000 parcels countywide.
According to Sussex County officials, the County has now received the final assessment rolls from the project’s contracted vendor, Tyler Technologies, and is moving into the final appeals phase, slated to begin in March. Homeowners can also find their reassessments online.
"The public can now see years of work coming into full focus, from their preliminary assessment values to what their future tax bills may look like," Finance Director/Chief Operating Officer Gina A. Jennings said. "We’re nearing the end, but a few important steps remain."
Jennings says so far, there have been close to 11,000 informal appeals.
Seaford resident Judith Muszynski tells WBOC she plans to file a formal appeal.
"The assessment was $110,000 more than I paid for my house without coming into my house," says Muszynski. "It seemed unfair. I might have to sell my house to accommodate not only for the utility bills, but also for the reassessment, because I don't know how much the taxes will be."
Jennings says once the County gets through the final appeals process, officials will set a tax rate in May or June. Tax bills are scheduled to go out in August.
