SALISBURY, MD - The Blood Bank of Delmarva has announced the permanent closure of their Salisbury Donor Center.
In a statement to WBOC, a spokesperson for the Blood Bank of Delmarva said the decision came after careful consideration and was part of their ongoing efforts to best serve donors and patients.
On Tuesday, Blood Bank of Delmarva told WBOC the branch on Mount Hermon Road had been temporarily closed due to unexpected operational issues. The permanent closure was announced two days later on February 27.
“Our focus remains on optimizing the convenience for our blood donors, prioritizing locations that allow us to serve the highest number of individuals and make the greatest impact,” Blood Bank of Delmarva said in a statement to WBOC. “We understand that this decision may be disappointing to some of our loyal donors, and we share in that sentiment. We are continuously exploring ways to expand and enhance access to donation opportunities and remain committed to finding new solutions to meet the evolving needs of our generous donors.”
With the Salisbury location’s closure, Maryland now has no active Blood Bank of Delmarva branches with the nearest branch in Dagsboro, DE.
