LEWES, Del. - Around 8:30 p.m. Monday night, the Lewes Fire Department and several other stations responded to a fire that burned down a home in the Coastal Club community.
The fire engulfed the home of Steve and Bobbi Wittenberg, destroying the front section and almost everything inside. No one was inside the home when the fire started and no injuries were reported.
Five homes surrounding the home were also damaged from the heat of the fire. Next-door neighbor Anthony Spinelli was on his way back from the airport picking up his daughter when he received calls from his neighbors.
"We knew, by videos, by pictures people were sending us, telling us, facetiming us, we knew out bad it was. And you know, we were fearful for our house of course," said Spinelli.
A GoFundMe page was organized by neighbors to help the Wittenberg family.
Currently, the Delaware Fire Marshal said they are still investigating the fire and a cause has yet not been determined.
