DOVER, De. - In a tweet posted early Saturday morning, President Trump announced plans to visit Dover Air Force Base to meet and mourn with the families of four U.S. troops killed while serving in Syria.

It's a visit that's drawing mixed reactions from people across Delmarva. For veterans like Dave Skocik of Dover, it's a good move.

"We owe this kind of honor to those people," Skocik. "I want to congratulate him for doing that. It's a great honor for the families to have the leader of the country to greet them and express his condolences."

President Trump kept his promise as media crews spotted him walking onto Marine One and taking off towards Dover.

And while some people on Delmarva approved of his visit, they also criticized the President, including the timing of the visit while the federal government shutdown continues into its 29th day.

"I feel like it's a two-fold situation," Terrance McDaniel of Dover said. "There's a lot of other issues that, you know, President Trump is involved in that also needs his attention."

Others, like MaryAnna Moderhak of Seaford, also approved the President's visit but questioned his use of social media to make the announcement.

"I think it's wonderful that he's taking the time to come here," Moderhak said. "But if President Trump would stay off of Twitter, I think it would be wonderful. I think that's his biggest drawback."
