Updated: Seaford Family Dollar Fire Ruled Arson

SEAFORD, Del.- Authorities say a late Monday afternoon fire that destroyed the Family Dollar store on the 500 block of Stein Highway in Seaford was intentionally set.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said in a press release Tuesday that the fire, which caused an estimated $3 million in damage, was an act of arson.

Seaford Fire Chief Jack Wilson said about 150 firefighters from a dozen Maryland and Delaware fire departments responded to the scene shortly after 5 p.m.  Wilson said extra water supply was needed to contain the blaze and frequent breaks were needed for firefighters due to the extreme heat.

One store employee was treated for minor smoke inhalation and released.

Deputy state fire marshal declined to release specifics about the case due to the criminal nature of the investigation. However, they said the investigation continues as deputies follow up investigative leads, information received and process evidence.
